It's been a really long time since I've had a bad party. I think it's been over a month (since my blog entry about the Dunes). Since then, I've found a couple of psuedo-static parties and have screamed RNG up to 38, as well as started and gotten NIN to 25. But the psuedo-static parties haven't been on in a while, and I've been left slumming it this week. All of this means that it is taking me a hell of a lot longer to get to 40 than it should!
First of all, last week I had a nasty party in Altepa at level 32 whose leader suggested we fight Dhalmels. We got creamed and our fearless leader (a BLM) used Warp I to escape the Dhalmel and disbanded the party (without finding the rest of us, who were dead, a raise).
I then got lucky over the weekend and got up to 38, but hit a speedbump on Sunday that I still haven't been able to crawl over since.
Now I'm stuck. No one seems to want to party with me in Altepa (which I know and enjoy... even if it is hard to pull from). Everyone my level always wants to head to the Crawler's Nest. And I'm sorry, but it's too damned tight in here and the Crawlers all link. This place is a freaking deathtrap!
And here's the kicker: I'm rapidly running out of money. The gil I earned from my Valk. Emp. drop is almost gone, and my RNG/NIN is one expensive combination. I wanted to get RNG to 40 before I headed out farming for more items to sell, but that may not happen. RNG/NIN isn't very effective if you can't afford ammunition and Ninja spell items.
Valk. Emp, you dog
I didn't know you got him. You dork. I hate you now ;-)
But seriously, I'd recommend farming normal drops (not really NMs, unless they aren't camped a lot like Daggerclaw Draccos or Hundredscar Hajwaj) and getting yourself a mule. I've been averaging about 4000g a day from my mule using just normal everyday crap. When I was really working at it (mining, harvesting, and logging) I was earning upwards of 10k a day.
NMs can give great drops, but the competition is horrible. Val and I spent three hours hunting Valk. Emp. the other day, only to miss it's spawn every single time.
